Glacier – Black Walnut

A custom guitar with a black walnut top wood

Glacier – Black Walnut

This guitar has touches of one of my early builds – including the top wood. Something in me decided to take the top wood from a guitar I built 11 years ago and build a whole new guitar around it. That original guitar had an inlay of an arctic fox chasing a mouse on the headstock, so I recreated that on the fretboard as well, although you can call it a cat or a shiba or whatever you see in it!

The black walnut top has quilt, cathedrals, and wavy grain. I’m not sure exactly how to categorize it! A couple of areas had imperfections, so I patched them with a bit of kintsugi inspiration.

The body is also made of black walnut, along with a layer of Amara ebony. The control plate and pickup rings were made from the same piece of Amara ebony and the truss rod cover is made from the same wood as the top.

The asymmetrical neck shape is comfortable and smooth, which makes it easy to both shred and play chords.

Everyone who has tried out one of my guitars has commented about how good the neck feels!

With the combination of the lower horn shape and the seamless neck heel carving, you’ll have effortless access to the upper frets.

The Little ’59 pickups are noiseless – a stacked neck pickup and a single coil sized humbucker at the bridge. Switch between humbucker and single coil tone with the push/pull tone knob.
