Guitars and basses displayed on a wall

Frequently Asked Questions

A single instrument takes several months to build. The exact build time will depend on the specs of the instrument and how complicated the build is.

Please refer to the pricing section.

No, please tell me if you want to be added to the wait list.

Yes, I regularly post pictures and videos on my social media pages of the builds that are in progress. Some builds will also have blogs written about them on my website. If you would like me to send updates directly to you, I am happy to do that as well.

It depends. Certain choices will be locked in as soon as parts are ordered or the building process starts. Minor details may be possible to change later on, but it would be best to make all decisions up front.

I’m sorry, but no. My workshop is in my home and it is set up for one person and one tool to be used at a time. However, I have plenty of content online that someone interested in building their own can learn from.

Policies

LAB guitars and basses start at $2500, plus tax (if applicable) and shipping.

This price includes a 4 string bass or 6 string guitar, in a pre-existing LAB brand model (body and headstock shape), with any standard choice of fretboard radius, scale length, neck profile, and pickups.

My builds come standard with Hipshot hardtail bridges and Hipshot tuning machines (gold finish costs a little more). I use a combination of domestic and exotic woods with a satin finish. Some wood choices may cause an increase to price if that particular wood is more expensive than my average selection.

Some other standards for my builds include wooden fretboard binding, gold frets, scarf joint, set neck or neck thru construction, and wooden control cavity and truss rod covers.

All instruments built by me will have my logo on the headstock and my serial numbers on the back.

Please take a look at the Shop page for available instruments and other items for sale. Take time to check the details of the instruments as some variables may occasionally vary from those listed above.

Customizations cost extra. If you are serious about having an instrument built by me, please reach out and let me know what customizations you would like and I can provide you with a rough quote.

I require a deposit before the planning process begins, followed by equal monthly payments during the build (beginning 1 month after the initial deposit), with the final remainder due at pick up/shipping time. I will break down these numbers for you after we have agreed on the details and overall price of the build. Pricing may change if you decide to change a detail of the project and I will let you know at that time about any price change.

If you would like to make smaller payments over a longer time frame, I will gladly slow down your build process to accommodate for that. Just let me know.

You have the right to turn down the build after you receive the price and before you pay the deposit. Once you pay the deposit, I will begin working on your project, therefore the deposit is non-refundable.

The deposit pays for my time for the first month, plus a portion of the parts and materials costs. The planning and design phase is included in this time as well.

All guitars and basses will be shipped with a hard shell case (in a box) to keep the instrument safe.

I will ship any in stock item ordered within a few days of order placement.

You will receive a tracking number and instruments will include insurance. Signatures may be required for delivery.

Local customers can choose to pick up their items in person, contact me for info.

If you are unhappy with the product you received or if there was a problem with your item, please contact me.

Please inspect and try out your item upon receipt and contact me within 14 days if there are any initial problems.

Problems do not include an option that you chose for your custom build and changed your mind about later, i.e. “I thought I wanted this option, but now that I see it in person, I think I’d prefer a different option.”

If your product should fail due to materials or workmanship after 14 days, please contact me and explain what happened.

I want every person to be thrilled with what I have built for them. If there is an issue with materials or workmanship, I will do whatever I can to remedy the situation. This does not include damage caused by yourself or others.

I have the right to update my pricing policy as needed.

I reserve the right to turn down custom builds as I see fit. I will never discriminate based on a person or group of people. However, I will occasionally turn down a proposed commission based on the project itself or time constraints.

I will not take on a build that I would not be proud to put my logo and brand name on.

I do not build copies of other brands’ work.

Some customers’ ideas may also be beyond my scope of work.

Please also understand that I am one person building a one-off custom build from start to finish. These builds take a considerable amount of time and I do have a wait list. This may make it impossible for me to take on all builds that are requested.
